Currently cooing over....

In love with bloodstone at the moment. This Art Nouveau bloodstone ring is calling my name

Fancy pants Victorian parure using ancient Roman coins

Incredible Persian miniatures necklace

Dreamy peachy kimono

Plum velvet cocoon cape - described as a 1920's piece, this rather reminds me of an earlier Poiret-esque silhouette. The draped, relaxed top section taking inspiration from the Far East, banded tightly at the hem, perfect over those restrictive hobble skirts he invented.

Edwardian silk purse with beautiful lining

Bad ass antique decanter I need in my house right now

Beautiful print, unfortunately already reserved for some lucky lady (or guy, I suppose)

Art Nouveau candelabra

Mmmustardy celluloid dance purse

Tiny little filigree coin purse

Jaw-dropping antique cuff. Belongs on my wrist

Oh so pretty 1950's Bill Blass dress

Art Deco celluloid vanity purse

Silk beaded flapper dress, in remarkable condition

Crazy dyed fox fur and leather vest

Incredible silver antique bag

And finally...the one that got away. I don't know why I didn't buy this when I first saw it, but my hesitancy cost me dearly. I regret not buying it so so much. I mean, what the hell even is it? A 1920's fur pom-pom vest thing? I hope you went to a good home!

Green

I've been getting a lot of positive comments about my hair, which both pleases and perplexes me. I think of my hair as a big pile of mess. It's naturally very curly, and is really difficult to look nice and sleek when worn down, even after straightening. I guess one positive of curly hair is that its very thick, so I am able to pile it all on my head and get lots of volume going on, which you guys seem to love! Anyway...today's outfit was based around a new ring of mine. It's pretty obvious that aside from black, green is my favourite colour. This ring is from the 1920/30's and feaures a beautiful chrysoprase stone, with surrounding marcasite accents. I'm absolutely in love with it, the green is pretty mesmerizing in real life. Many thanks to Gina on Ruby Lane for giving me a wonderful ring (and service). I also have a cute new bag with an ornate silver frame. It's such a good size, really fills out, but the bag itself isn't ridiculously large (unlike the Lulu Guinness couture handbag it reminds me of).

Make-up shot; Painting your face shouldn't be this much fun, but it is.

I tried to get a good shot of my earrings, but they kept swinging about damn them! This is the best I could do

Same hat, different look

Above images from style.com

Today I wore the same hat as yesterday, yet the look is remiscent of a completely different decade. After I finished dressing I was reminded of Marc Jacobs' a/w 2007 collection, for a few reasons. My shirt is quite obviously some kitsch 70's take on the twenties, with an art deco theme to it, not dissimilar to the aforementioned collection, which was heavily influenced by a twenties aesthetic. The colours are similar, with me dressing in shades of grey, black and red. I also noticed today how pointed the collar of the shirt is, a detail featured in the collection too. Oh and the hat creates a similar sihouette. I think that just about covers all the similarities I noticed! The shirt in question is one I saw and immediately knew I wanted. It's pretty naff, but in a good way! There's some bloke on the front with a boater hat, cane and pin-striped suit. On the back, he's joined by his mates; a lady in a carriage, and her driver, who is lookin' sharp in his top hat. Could a greater shirt exist?! There's also a vest stiched in under the shirt which features the same image as the back, but today I hid it away and buttoned the shirt fully.

(It's a little labybird pin on my lapel, in case you were wondering)

Feeling Flouncy

I was unsure about this shirt at first, but felt myself strangely drawn to it. When I finally bought it last year and it arrived, I was really pleased I'd made that decision. The pattern and colours are kind of ugly, but in that weird sort of ugly goodness we all secretly admire. And anyway, who doesn't want an art deco lady with her legs awkwardly crossed all over their torso? The fabric feels lovely, but mostly, I was impressed by the shape. The sleeves are beautiful, full of movement, with a double layer of ruffles. Theres also a big peplum, which I have tucked away into my skirt, but when I wear this top with trousers the peplum is out on full view, equally as flouncy as the sleeves (is flouncy a word?).

I also feel the wearing of pink and red needs a special mention here. It's seen as one of those awful faux pas', a fashion rule not to be broken! Well I say fuck it, wear socks with sandals people! Wear black with brown! Break some more rules! Do whatever makes you happy! (but please for the love of good don't mix your metals, I can't stand gold with silver. If my shoes have gold hardwear, my handbag has to too, and all my jewellery must be gold. Pink and red I can handle, but gold and silver, are you serious?) I happen to think the hints of red look nice here.

Grey coat (Therapy), vintage shoes, bag (Luella), scarf (H&M), skirt (American Apparel), black top (H&M), shirt (Sara Berman).

(I cannot apologize enough for this photo, my gloves make me act like a rabbit)
