Medieval Military

I bought this bodice a couple of years ago and despite being wool, on the few occasions I've worn it, I've opted to dress it up as evening-wear. It's from the 1970s and according to the seller came with matching high-waisted flares that attached to the bodice via the hook and eyes that line its hem (I wasn't too disappointed to hear that these were disintegrated beyond repair and disposed of by the seller). Bit of an odd choice for me; I'm not hugely fond of the 70s, the faded sage green colour isn't exactly prevalent in my wardrobe, and the structure is pretty rigid and shoulder-enhancing. But... I loved the beaded, medieval crest, and I have super narrow shoulders so welcomed the idea of a bit of balance to my hips. I'd just seen the Marc Jacobs SS15 show when I bought this, which fused femininity, sage green, military details and jet black hair to surprisingly pleasing effect, and obviously urged me to buy something slightly different for me (but not actual Marc Jacobs, sorry Marc).

Vintage bodice and bag, Lanvin shoes, ASOS skirt, self-made belt.

The Lanvin shoes I first spotted way-back in 2009, and thanks to persistent ebaying, I managed to make them mine two or three years ago, brand new, and for a very good price. Never give up!

And dressed down with a white turtleneck (which oddly adds a sci-fi/jockey vibe to the already confusing mixture of medieval/military)

Strawberry Suffragette

I wore this scarf far too much this past winter. Featuring probably the best print ever created - William Morris's 'Strawberry Thief' - and overlaid with a feminist statement proclaiming SUFFRAGETTE, I adore the print (obviously), the message, and the colourway of sage green, khaki green, and burnt orange. The earthy tones of a 1920's tooled leather bag, and tortoiseshell shoes (which have hardly left my feet recently) complete the look.

Matching Mustard

I guess there's no hiding the fact that these pictures are rather old... what can I say, I've been a busy girl! Anyway, I've always loved mustard with dark hair and red lips. This blouse was picked up in a charity shop. It's so big and drapey I like to tie it and play around with volume, here exposing the vest beneath. Paired with my absolute favourite coat, a 1920's Astrakhan with blonde mink collar, and mustard gloves my friend bought me for Christmas.

Love the label; apparently Brown Muff & Co was bought by House of Fraser in 1977, having begun business in 1814.

Black and Blue - part two

Following on from my previous post featuring this blouse in a daytime look, here's a peek at how I styled it for a wedding party a few weeks ago. As the blouse is kinda boxy and fussy, I kept the silhouette streamlined with a basic black pencil skirt, adding black and white accessories in the form of triple-strapped Mary-Janes, Ianthe printed Liberty bag and pearl-rimmed sunglasses.

Draped and Mirrored

Haven't done an outfit post in a while, but I have a few coming up. Summer isn't really my thing (I love layering) but I struggle through! This ensemble was for a late summers evening out. The draped kimono type garment is from ASOS; it has such a lovely weight to it and drapes beautifully. The vest beneath doesn't look like much but it is a pretty peachy nude with large copper beads which catch the light. The bag is a new favourite of mine, there is no way to describe it other than a miniature Persian rug. It's adorable! A gift from a friend who obviously knows me well. Finally, the shoes; red snakeskin, nude trims, mesh insert and mirror heel? Yes please and thank-you, Antipodium.

Parisian Escapades

The boyf and I took a little trip to Paris recently. We managed to cram a lot into our four days there, unfortunately I forgot my camera charger so I had to be a bit restrained with my photo taking. Rest assured I wore many a fabulous outfit, however I've only got photographic evidence of one.

Squinting in front of the Sacre Coeur

We saw extraordinary art at the Pompidou Centre, including pieces by Dali, Bacon and this Tamara De Lempicka beauty.

Kisses on Oscar Wilde's grave

The Grand Palais was a highlight for me, it is incredibly ostentatious and over the top in its beauty. I had to visit it twice I loved it so much. I wanted so badly to get inside and see the iconic glass vaulted roof, however, the Chanel set was still being removed.

Walked around the 'golden triangle' of designer stores; I was such a geek and had to take photos of store fronts. Dior had glorious visual merchandising.

Paris Fashion Week was wrapping up whilst we were there. Having walked through the Tuileries Garden one day we came across a massive commotion which turned out to be the aftermath of the Valentino show. People were photographing and crowding round the models as they left; it felt a bit weird/intrusive but I was rather excited to see these beauties in real life. Fei Fei Sun was serenely gorgeous.

The fabulous behinds of Mijo Mihaljcic and Ashleigh Good

Whilst caught up in the hysteria, a few people approached me to take my photograph. Once I got over the embarrassment, I obliged. I've only found one photo online however, from Vogue Ukraine. Is this the fashion bloggers dream? Perhaps, but I felt totally awkward... And not too enamoured with the final shot!

I'm wearing a vintage green velvet coat; antique gloves and bag; vintage ermine tail scarf; and Kurt Geiger silver croc-embossed loafers (which are my absolute favourite shoes right now).
